A posting on the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page today announced the appointment, making her the only female chief of a football club in the Malaysian Super League (MSL), the top tier competition in the country.
Tunku Aminah is the sister of Tunku Ismail, who used to be the president of the club from December 2012 until July 12, 2015. He had relinquished his position last year to Johor State Secretary Ismail Karim.
Tunku Ismail, who is also Tunku Mahkota Johor (TMJ), is the current owner of JDT and patron of the Johor State Football Association (JFA). Ismail is the JFA President.
The 30-year-old Johor princess is the only daughter of Sultan Ibrahim Ismail and Raja Zarith Sofea, and is the second of six children in the Johor royal family.
She is a former student of Convent Girls School in Johor Baru and the Australian International School in Singapore.
According to previous media reports, Tunku Aminah, who is more popularly known as Tunku Inah, enjoys equestrian sports and art. She also has an official fashion diary on Instagram, called Tunku Tun Aminah OOTD.
JDT are currently top of the MSL with 39 points, and are favourites to become champions for the third consecutive year.
Tunku Aminah is now one of two women presidents of a Malaysian football club, with the other being Siti Zubaidah Abdul Jabar of PKNS FC, which plays in the second-tier Malaysia Premier League.
Siti Zubaidah works for the Selangor Government, as a member of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) management team.
