With reference to the statement that DAP Socialist Youth Executive Secretary, Muhammad Shakir Ameer, released yesterday, I think he has tried too hard to explain why a DAP leader who garnered the most votes in party elections, like Gobind Singh, was not made the Selangor DAP Chairman but has to make way for Lim Guan Eng’s preferred candidate Tony Pua, who fared at the bottom in terms of popular votes.
While we recognise that DAP has their unique system of party elections, we are merely pointing out the inconsistencies and double standards practised by DAP. Further, the system they practise does not reflect the “democracy” that DAP preaches to others.
Shakir repeated that DAP has always been against racial politics.
While doing so, however, Shakir has refused to address the speech made by the likes of Hew Kuan Yew on the eve of the Sarawak state elections, as raised by MCA Central Committee Member Ti Lian Ker.
Instead, at such a young age, Shakir has adopted his master’s art of practising double standards and diversion of the issues.
As a DAPSY leader, Shakir should question and take to task the hypocrisy within his party instead of being a parrot to his bosses. He should question his bosses that if DAP is truly a multiracial party, why were there only a handful of Malay candidates who were fielded in the last General Election?
Of the 51 candidates for Parliamentary seats and 118 candidates for state seats fielded by DAP in the last General Election, only three of them were Malays.
In fact, of these three candidates, two were elected as MP and state assemblyman respectively. With such a success rate, why is DAP not fielding more Malay candidates?
Is this to maintain a certain hegemony within the party? One Malay MP in the last General Election is certainly a poor return for a self-professed multiracial party like DAP.
Or is it that because Shakir is appointed as a local councillor, he will only speak when directed by his bosses?
Instead of making false allegations against MCA, Shakir should do some “party soul searching” and look within and note that none of the DAP Malay members appear to have contested for any of the state seats in Selangor and 85% of the DAP’s state assemblymen are ethnically Chinese.
These records certainly tells the truth about DAP, it is no more than a self-professed multiracial party.
On calls for MCA to address hate speeches by Barisan Nasional leaders, let us make it clear in no uncertain terms that we have never kept quiet on any such speeches. We have been consistent in voicing out against hate speeches, be it from our coalition or that of the opposition coalition.
In fact, we have also spoken out against NGOs or their leaders who have made hate speeches. All these were done with no fear or favour in the spirit that this country should practise moderation, and be administered under the same principle.
Certainly, these are things which DAP will deny as they are more interested in their propaganda of lies.
It is thus not surprising that the so-called multiracial DAP has alienated their partners in PKR and PAS.
They have also pitted the Chinese community against the MCA for all the woes affecting the community, without providing any concrete plans or alternatives but speeches of hatred, as evidenced in Shakir’s statement.
