The irony of the events that took place on Friday, 4th March 2016, is not lost on all of us. Bitter rivals stood side by side, smiling broadly and holding their hands up in triumph, uniting under one common cause – driving Najib Razak and his cronies to resign from their position of power.
But guess what? It is no longer enough to run campaigns based on sentiments. We have had enough of it from politicians from either side. Malaysia deserves better than a patched up movement with no vision for themselves.
Who would have imagined Mahathir and Anwar would ever be on the same page again? The likes of Lim Kit Siang, Tian Chua and Azmin Ali were all victims of Operation Lallang and the Internal Security Act, and have always been vocal in speaking against Tun Mahathir Mohamad’s iron-fist rule.
But there they were at the announcement of the Citizens’ Declaration.
Ironically, aspirations of the rakyat were conveniently forgotten in the pursuit of power. It seems there is no loyalty in politics, not even loyalty to the rakyat.
These individuals have nothing in common besides the need to remove Najib. How will this campaign achieve their goal? The general election is at least a year away. Even then, there is no guarantee of success especially when the opposition coalition is running around like a headless chicken.
The absence of Dr Wan Azizah and Lim Guan Eng and the presence of Azmin Ali paints a bleak future for Pakatan Harapan, merely five months since inception.
The Barisan Nasional still has the advantage should a no-confidence vote be taken at the Dewan Rakyat.
Even if the campaign succeeds, who will replace Najib? Will it be Tun Mahathir, Lim Kit Siang or even Muhyiddin Yassin? None of these names represent a real change of system, nor will they ever regain the trust they’ve lost.
Malaysia deserves better than a bunch of has-beens with token youth icons stamping their feet.
What comes next? They do not have the answer, and not even on a candidate for their succession plan. Change for the sake of change is no better than our status quo.
A well-thought-out plan is needed for success. Without it, we would only be running around in circles with rotating politicians.
The rakyat are once again used as pawns for a political play. Driven by an obsession rather than passion for a better Malaysia, this movement is bound to break as soon as it takes off.
Malaysia deserves a real leader, real change. Let’s save Malaysia from hypocrites!
