The ministry said the use or possession of another person’s MyKad without lawful authority is a serious offence under Regulation 25 of the National Registration Regulations 1990.
“If convicted, a person may be fined up to RM20,000, sentenced to a maximum three years in prison, or both,” it said in a statement today.
The Treasury also urged petrol station operators to tighten SOP compliance for transactions under the BUDI95 scheme, particularly regarding MyKad verification.
Operators have also been ordered to investigate transactions where SOP breaches have been identified so that action is taken on the stations involved.
“Any manual transaction performed without prior physical MyKad verification is not permitted as this allows for unauthorised transactions and abuse of the RON95 subsidy,” it said.
The ministry said BUDI95 recipients may check their record of transactions at the initiative’s portal and are advised to file police reports if they discover unauthorised transactions.
Under BUDI95, eligible Malaysians may purchase RON95 at a subsidised price of RM1.99 per litre, with a monthly quota of 200 litres currently.
The current price of unsubsidised RON95 is RM3.92 per litre.
