Steam Era Sdn Bhd director Yong Pitt Lok, 48, is accused of transferring RM1,468,958.29 in company funds into his personal bank account for his own benefit.
The offence was allegedly committed in Bandar Baru Sri Petaling between March 11 and Oct 24, 2024.
Yong pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 409 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of between two and 20 years, whipping, and a fine upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Zul Hilmi Latif requested bail of RM120,000.
However, defence counsel Lee Keng Fatt applied for a lower amount of RM50,000.
Lee said Yong supports three children aged 16 to 21 who are still studying, while his wife is a housewife. He also supports his 71-year-old mother-in-law, who is receiving treatment for hypertension.
Lee added that his client had fully cooperated with investigators and was not a flight risk.
“The accused gave his statement three times and was never remanded. He voluntarily went to the Brickfields police headquarters before being brought to court after being informed on Monday that he would be charged,” he said.
He also asked the court not to impound Yong’s passport, which he said was needed for overseas business travel.
Judge Azrul Darus allowed bail of RM50,000 with one surety and set June 29 for mention.
