
Top seeds Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani and Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King won their second round matches at the Unifi Arena in Bukit Jalil today.
Sze Fei-Izzuddin had a relatively easy match against newly paired compatriots Chia Wei Jie-Teo Ee Wei, winning 21-14, 21-12 in a match that took 29 minutes.
They will meet either Japan’s Kakeru Kumagai-Hiroki Nishi or Chen Zhi Ray-Lin Yu Chieh of Taiwan in the quarter-finals tomorrow.
World No 2 duo Aaron-Wooi Yik, who were last year’s runners-up, had little difficulty defeating French pair Julien Maio-William Villeger. They took 30 minutes to defeat their 63rd-ranked rivals 21-12, 21-10.
They will meet Chinese pair He Ke Yuan-Lin Xiang Yi in the last-eight match tomorrow. Aaron-Wooi Yik are still in the hunt for their first title this year.
Another pair, Wan Arif-Roy King, defeated compatriots Kang Khai Xing-Aaron Tai 21-12, 22-20 in 30 minutes.
They will meet American pair Chen Zhi Yi-Presley Smith, who defeated Malaysian duo Nur Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong 21-14, 21-18 in 34 minutes.
Separately, mixed doubles husband-wife pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai failed to qualify for the quarter-finals after losing to Taiwanese pair Wu Guan Xun-Lee Chia Hsin 19-21, 21-7, 19-21 in 50 minutes.
The remaining mixed doubles pair, Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, will play their second-round match later today.
