PETALING JAYA:
A total of 15,296 fake accounts using the names of 26 members of royalty were identified between January and April this year, based on public complaints and monitoring by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

The names used included those of Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, said communications minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He said social media platform providers have taken down 14,750 of these accounts.

Fahmi said he presented the numbers in a meeting with the Selangor ruler today, and also informed the ruler about the online identity verification systems to protect children and families online.
