PETALING JAYA:
Dissatisfaction with traffic congestion caused by Friday prayers was what drove a 46-year-old man to file a petition objecting to the call to prayer at a surau in Ampang, according to police.

Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar said the suspect was believed to have acted of his own volition and was not influenced by others, Kosmo reported.

He added that the man was unemployed and had been a resident of Taman Suraya, Ampang, for several years now.

“We are still interrogating him to determine if there are other elements involved. We are investigating the case from various aspects and angles,” said Shazeli.

He added that the suspect was still in remand to assist investigations into alleged sedition, intentionally wounding the religious feelings of others, and the improper use of network facilities.

The suspect was arrested around the Pandan Indah area on Sunday for allegedly defying a command by the Selangor sultan on the conduct of Friday prayers and the call to prayer at a surau in Ampang.
