The former state agrotechnology, food security and cooperative development committee chairman was charged with assaulting his wife in February.
Magistrate Chia Huey Ting set the date after both the defence and prosecution agreed to the proposed trial schedule, Kosmo reported.
Chia also set May 14 for the submission of documents, including the medical report related to the case.
During proceedings, Fahmi’s counsel, Shamsher Singh Thind, urged the court to bring forward the trial date, objecting to what he described as a two-month delay requested earlier by deputy public prosecutor Ikmal Affendi Zulkifly.
“The previous two-month postponement has already caused unnecessary delay, and any further adjournment will only prolong the case without justification.
“The complainant lodged two police reports – before and after the charge – and there have been efforts to withdraw the case as it involves a domestic matter,” he said.
Ikmal Affendi informed the court that the medical report is expected to be ready within the week.
The court fixed May 14 for the submission of documents and set the trial for Aug 18 at 11am.
Fahmi was charged with causing hurt to his wife, Nur Hidayah Abd Jabar, at their home in Bayan Lepas on Feb 22. He pleaded not guilty.
He was later dropped from the Penang executive council and suspended from all positions in PKR.
