PETALING JAYA:
Former Johor Bersatu associate wing chief Tan Lek Khang is undergoing surgery after accidentally shooting himself in the chest this afternoon.

Kosmo reported that Tan’s surgery at Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) in Johor Bahru is expected to take about four hours.

Former Johor Bersatu associate wing secretary Yeo Kwee Kwang said he was told that Tan was rushed to HSI at about 5.30pm after initially being treated at Kota Tinggi Hospital.

“We are not sure of his exact condition, as there is limited information,” he said.

Yeo said the injury is believed to have occurred while Tan was undergoing firearms training at a shooting range in Kota Tinggi, Johor.

Kota Tinggi police chief Yusof Othman said he would issue a statement on the matter in due course.

On Feb 13, Tan quit Bersatu and stepped down as Johor associate wing chief after expressing a loss of confidence in Muhyiddin Yassin’s leadership.

Tan contested the Bekok state seat in Johor in the 2022 state election but only managed to secure 2,881 votes in the four-cornered contest.

Barisan Nasional’s Tan Chong won the seat with 7,036 votes, securing a 3,569-vote majority over Pakatan Harapan’s M Kanan.
