State police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said a report had been lodged over a viral message announcing a so-called “integrity enhancement and basic driving course” scheduled for Apr 22-24 in Cheras.
The message included images of uniformed officers and bank account details for donations.
“We strongly dismiss this request for contributions,” Bernama quoted him as saying today.
Dzulkhairi said police viewed the matter seriously as it misused the department’s name, misled the public and tarnished the force’s reputation.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 420/511 of the Penal Code for cheating. Police are tracking down those involved.
Dzulkhairi urged the public not to trust unverified social media messages or make financial transactions with unknown parties. He also advised the public to refer to official police channels for authentic information.
