Alor Gajah police chief Ahmad Abu Bakar said the 53-year-old man was arrested while giving his statement at the district traffic police headquarters at noon today.

A urine test showed positive for methamphetamine, he added.

Police will file a remand application at the Alor Gajah magistrates’ court tomorrow, Bernama reported.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless and dangerous driving.

Express bus operator Billion Stars Express previously said the driver had been suspended with immediate effect after receiving a complaint on the incident.

The driver was instructed to report to the office to assist in the investigations and undergo a drug screening test but failed to show up.

Ahmad said the incident occurred about 3.50am last week while the bus was on its way from Ipoh to Johor Bahru.
