PETALING JAYA:
DAP plans to defend the 10 seats it secured in the last Johor polls, according to state party chairman Teo Nie Ching.

She said discussions on seat allocations among Pakatan Harapan (PH) parties are still in progress, with another round of talks expected next month.

“What is certain is that we will defend all the seats we previously won and have also identified additional constituencies we either lost or did not contest previously.

“There are some overlapping seats, and we hope to resolve this at the next meeting in May,” she said after attending the Johor DAP Youth convention in Kulai today, The Star reported.

The Umno-led Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition formed the Johor government after the March 2022 state election, winning 40 of the 56 seats.

PH won 12 seats, with DAP winning 10 and PKR and Amanah taking one each. Perikatan Nasional (PN) won three seats while Muda, which contested under the PH banner, won one seat.

The current state government’s term ends in mid-2027.

Teo also said that DAP hopes to field at least 30% women candidates in the upcoming polls.

“It is not a decision we can make solely at the state level, as the candidates must be endorsed by the central executive council and the candidate selection committee.

“However, that is our aim, and we will send proposals to the council and committee,” she said.
