PETALING JAYA:
The government is ready to place Malaysian students whose overseas studies have been affected by the Middle East conflict in local universities if the situation requires.

Higher education minister Zambry Abdul Kadir said this includes those who have just received offers to continue their studies in the countries involved.

“Space will be provided for them to continue their studies here, in accordance with their results, courses and educational backgrounds.

“We will look at courses with transferable credits, based on the Malaysian Qualifications Agency’s guidelines, so that the students can continue their studies without having to repeat everything,” Bernama reported him as saying at Universiti Teknologi Mara’s Jasin campus in Melaka today.

Zambry said Malaysia has brought students back and placed them in local universities before, including during the Iran-Iraq conflict.

He said the universities in the affected countries are still functioning as usual, and his ministry will await feedback from the students and institutions before taking further action.
