Yesterday, it was reported that the CEO of a statutory body had been remanded for five days until April 18 to assist in investigations into a RM1 million bribery case.
According to a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) source, the remand order was issued by magistrate Ezrene Zakaria at the Putrajaya magistrates’ court following an application yesterday.
The CEO, in his 40s, was arrested at about 7.20pm on Monday at a shopping mall in Bukit Jalil, shortly after allegedly receiving RM100,000 from a contractor.
MACC believes the payment is part of a bribe linked to the approval of claims for a RM7 million squash court complex project. The agency is also looking into whether the CEO had received an earlier upfront payment of RM500,000 prior to Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Separately, youth and sports minister Dr Taufiq Johari said his ministry would leave it to the authorities to conduct a holistic investigation.
