The Perak fire and rescue department said it received a call at 1.57am, and that a team arrived at the scene 10 minutes later.
“The male victim, 53-year-old Radzi Ariffin, was trapped in a locked storage room. UPSI auxiliary police opened the door upon the firefighters’ arrival.
“The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by medical officers,” it said in a statement, adding that police are investigating the death.
UPSI Sports Bowl manager Dzulkarnain Sapian said Radzi was found at around 1am after his wife came to the bowling centre looking for her husband, who did not return home after finishing work last night.
Dzulkarnain said he, together with Radzi’s wife and another staff member, opened the storeroom door, which was usually not locked, but had difficulty doing so as Radzi’s body was behind the door.
“The victim complained to his wife last evening about having a headache. That’s all that I know,” Dzulkarnain said when contacted here today.
Meanwhile, UPSI vice-chancellor Md Amin Md Taff said on Facebook that Radzi was suspected to have suffered a heart attack.
“The company will issue an official statement regarding the incident. The UPSI authorities are monitoring this matter and will provide appropriate assistance to the deceased’s family,” he said.
