SUNGAI PETANI:
A man and a woman in their 20s drowned while kayaking at Pantai Merdeka yesterday, while taking part in activities organised by a higher education institute, police said.

Kuala Muda police chief Hanyan Ramlan said the victims are believed to have fallen overboard after encountering strong waves at about 5pm, and their kayak is thought to have become entangled in a fisherman’s net.

They were in a group with several other kayaks, travelling from one location to another. Some capsized, but the occupants were rescued, Hanyan said.
