PAS syura council clears way for ex-Perlis lawmakers to rejoin party

The council declined to decide on the trio’s appeal to have their membership reinstated as the matter was not within its jurisdiction.

PAS’s syura council has accepted the membership applications of three Perlis assemblymen whose party memberships were terminated last month after they allegedly withdrew support for then-menteri besar Shukri Ramli.

In a Facebook post, syura council member Ahmad Yahaya said the council declined to decide on the trio’s appeal to have their membership reinstated as the matter was not within its jurisdiction.

“We accepted the new membership application forms from the three former assemblymen and submitted them to the PAS secretary-general for consideration by the party’s central leadership,” said Ahmad, who is also the PAS Ulama Council chief.

The seats of Ridzuan Hashim (Guar Sanji), Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Bintong), and Saad Seman (Chuping) were declared vacant after PAS terminated their memberships on Dec 24, 2025 after the trio and five Bersatu assemblymen allegedly signed statutory declarations withdrawing support for Shukri.

The Perlis state legislative assembly submitted vacancy notices for the three seats to the Election Commission (EC) on Dec 29. However, EC chairman Ramlan Harun reportedly said no by-elections would be held.
