Hajiji announces 10-member Sabah Cabinet

The positions are filled by assemblymen from GRS, Upko, PH and BN.

KOTA KINABALU:
Parti Bersatu Sabah acting president Dr Joachim Gunsalam, representing chief minister Hajiji Noor, has unveiled the full list of Sabah’s new Cabinet.

The new administration brings together elected representatives from Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, Upko, Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional.

Notably absent from the line-up were representatives from Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) and  independents who pledged their support for Hajiji  following the state election on Saturday.

​Hajiji named Joachim, GRS secretary-general Masidi Manjun and Upko president Ewon Benedick as deputy chief ministers I, II and III, respectively.

The lineup was announced at Sri Gaya, the chief minister’s official residence, following internal discussions that began after the results of the 17th state election were announced.

The full list of ministers, their portfolios, and parties is as follows:

  • Finance: Masidi Manjun (GRS)
  • Works and utilities: Joachim Gunsalam (GRS)
  • Industrial development, entrepreneurship, and transport: Ewon Benedick (Upko)
  • Local government and housing: Arifin Arif (GRS)
  • Agriculture, fisheries, and food industries: Jamawi Jaafar (PH)
  • Rural development: Rubin Balang (GRS)
  • Education, science, technology, and innovation: James Ratib (GRS)
  • Tourism, culture, and environment: Jafry Ariffin (BN)
  • Women, health, and community wellbeing: Julita Majingki (GRS)
  • Youth development, sports advancement, and creative industries: Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan (GRS)

All Cabinet members were sworn in before Sabah governor Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu here.

GRS came out tops at the election, winning 29 of the 73 seats up for grabs.

Warisan won 25 seats, followed by BN (six), Upko (three) and STAR (two), while Perikatan Nasional, Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat and Pakatan Harapan each won one seat.

Five independents were also elected to the state assembly.
