PETALING JAYA:
World mixed doubles champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei cruised into the semi-finals of the Australian Open today, marking their 10th last-four appearance this year.

The world No 4 pair took 36 minutes to send Taiwan’s Ye Hong Wei-Nicole Gonzales Chan packing with a 21-17, 21-15 win in Sydney.

It was their fourth win against the Taiwanese pair in five encounters so far.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei, who have qualified for the lucrative World Tour Finals (WTF) to be played in China next month, will take on Taiwan’s Yang Po Hsuan-Hu Ling Fang or Thai pair Pakkapon Teeraratsakul-Sapsiree Taerattanachai in the semi-final tomorrow.

The Malaysians won the World Championships title this year after qualifying for two finals.

Winning the Australia Open, which is a Super 500 tournament, will give them a perfect boost ahead of the WTF to be played in Hangzhou from Dec 17 to 21.
