Sultan Ibrahim, who is also the chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), said these cases had tarnished the image of the country’s educational institutions.

The king urged schools and educational institutions to emphasise humanity, morality, emotional control and awareness of the relevant laws in their lessons.

“Through this approach, we can cultivate a disciplined generation that respects one another,” Sultan Ibrahim said at UiTM’s 103rd convocation ceremony at the university here today.

Also gracing the event was Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, who is UiTM pro-chancellor.

Sultan Ibrahim said addressing such issues was a social responsibility that extended beyond the classroom, and that education and moral development should begin at home as part of everyday life.

“The home is the first school for everyone… It’s where children are taught values, discipline and a sense of responsibility to society from a young age,” he said.

He reminded parents and educators to guide students in the responsible use of digital technology, saying constant exposure to violent content could increase aggression among teenagers.

Sultan Ibrahim also warned against restricting students’ access to digital technology, saying this could hinder their access to digital learning material.

The convocation saw 32,630 graduates receive diplomas and degrees across various fields.
