5 Myanmar nationals plead guilty to defrauding compatriots with fake job offers

PETALING JAYA:
Five Myanmar nationals were fined RM5,000 each by the Johor Bahru magistrates’ court today after pleading guilty to defrauding their compatriots with fake online job offers last week.

Harian Metro reported that Yan Yone Li, 29, Thi Thi Lwin, 29, Lone Shue, 23, Shwe Nanthar Kyaw, 25, and Eaindray Phyoe, 21, pleaded guilty after the charges were read to them in Mandarin.

The five women were charged with being part of a criminal conspiracy and jointly making fraudulent online job offers targeting Myanmar nationals.

The offers were made from an apartment unit in Forest City, Gelang Patah, Johor at 7.30pm on Nov 12 with the intent of tricking their victims into handing over their money.

They were charged under Section 120B(2) of the Penal Code with criminal conspiracy, which provides for six months’ imprisonment, a fine or both upon conviction.

The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor Nor Deana Aqilah Aliman while the accused were represented by lawyer Lim Seay Sean.

The five paid their fines, having been ordered to serve five months’ jail if they failed to do so.
