PETALING JAYA:
Fadlun Mak Ujud, a former president of Putrajaya Corporation, has been appointed the new mayor of Kuala Lumpur.

Federal territories minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim had consented to Fadlun’s appointment, which will take effect from tomorrow.

“I am confident that with this appointment, he will continue the legacy of leadership at Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) with integrity, efficiency, and attentiveness to the aspirations of the people,” she said in a statement.

Fadlun was appointed following the move to shorten Maimunah Sharif’s tenure as mayor, which saw her time in office end today instead of on Aug 16 next year.

Zaliha said Fadlun, 58, served as president of Putrajaya Corporation from 2022.

“During his tenure, he demonstrated outstanding leadership in strengthening the implementation of the Putrajaya Smart City Blueprint, the Putrajaya Green City Plan, and various urban welfare initiatives based on the principles of inclusivity and sustainability.”

He holds a bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and has over 28 years of experience in urban planning, regional development, and city management.

Zaliha said he is also a member of the Board of Town Planners Malaysia and a fellow of the Malaysian Institute of Planners.

“His active participation in numerous international forums and professional networks has reinforced his role as a visionary urban planner with a forward-looking perspective,” she said.

She said his leadership was expected to strengthen the implementation of the Chase City agenda and ensure that Kuala Lumpur continues to thrive as a globally competitive, livable city guided by Madani values.

The Chase City agenda is a strategic vision to transform the three federal territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya, into clean, healthy, advanced, safe and eco-friendly cities.

The minister also expressed appreciation to Maimunah for her leadership and contributions during her tenure as mayor, which she said had greatly enhanced the international reputation of the capital city.

Maimunah, who was appointed Kuala Lumpur mayor in August last year, has been made Petronas’s new property adviser effective Nov 17.
