
Siti Normasyitoh Nordin, 42, Shahrul Affendy Sharib, 33, and Che Azri Che Abd Aziz, 38, made their pleas before judge Nasir Nordin after the charges were read out separately, reported Bernama.
Normasyitoh faces 22 charges, Shahrul Affendy faces eight charges, and Che Azri faces four charges.
Normasyitoh, a bank sales manager, allegedly received RM146,360 in bribes from a law firm as a reward for recommending it to prepare 127 loan agreements valued at over RM40 million.
She allegedly committed the offences at a bank branch in Section 13, Shah Alam, between January 2020 and April 2023.
Shahrul Affendy, a consumer sales executive at another bank, allegedly accepted RM4,270 in bribes from the same law firm as a reward for recommending the firm to prepare four loan agreements worth RM1.08 million.
The offences were said to have occurred between October 2020 and October 2022 at a bank in Kelana Jaya.
Che Azri, an assistant sales manager at another bank, is accused of accepting RM3,414 in bribes from the same law firm as a reward for recommending the firm to prepare two housing loan agreements worth RM503,500.
The offences were allegedly committed on May 27, 2020, and Sept 27, 2022, at a bank branch in Section 13, Shah Alam.
Half of the trio’s charges were framed under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 for accepting bribes, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine.
The other half were alternative charges in which they were accused of failing to report the corrupt acts to MACC officers or the police.
The alternative charges under Section 25(2) of the MACC Act provides for a fine of up to RM100,000, a maximum of 10 years’ jail, or both.
Deputy public prosecutor M Esther Jacyntha appeared for the prosecution in Che Azri and Normasyitoh’s cases, while MACC prosecuting officer Safari Abdullah handled Shahrul Affendy’s case.
Normasyitoh was represented by Firdaus Shaik Alauddin and Aniq Danish Hadi while Shahrul Affendy was represented by lawyer Azizzul Shariman Mat Yusof. Che Azri was unrepresented.
The court set bail at RM15,000 for Normasyitoh, RM8,000 for Shahrul Affendy, and RM5,000 for Che Azri.
The court also ordered them to report to the nearest MACC office monthly, surrender their passports, and not contact prosecution witnesses.
The case is set for mention on Jan 15.
