BUKIT MERTAJAM:
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has brushed off a former Thai army general’s criticism of his role in the Thailand-Cambodia peace deal, describing the man as an “election loser”.

Anwar said it would be “unintelligent” to heed the comments of the former army officer.

“He comes from a Thai party that, just like Pejuang in our country, has never won a single election,” he said at an event in Cherok Tok Kun here today.

“Not only has he never won any seat, but he has also forfeited his election deposit – just like Pejuang here.”

In a video, the former Royal Thai Army Radio and Television Station (Channel 5) chief, Rangsi Kitiyanasap, accused Anwar of causing economic losses to Thailand through the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord, claiming that it had allowed the US to interfere in Thailand’s economy.

Rangsi leads the Economic Party, a right-wing party with no representation in Thailand’s national assembly.

Responding to Rangsi’s comments, deputy foreign minister Mohamad Alamin told the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday the government would not entertain remarks from individuals without any “diplomatic authority”.
