Speaker Amar Abdullah said the enactment, last amended in 2002, needs to be updated to reflect current developments.

He said the enactment will mainly increase penalty limits to reflect current monetary values, and introduce several new offences related to Islamic family matters, particularly involving marriage.
“This bill represents a complete renewal of the Islamic Family Law Enactment 2002 and will be tabled by the state Islamic development, dakwah, information, and community relations committee chairman Asri Mat Daud, during this assembly session, followed by debates,” he told a press conference at the Kota Darulnaim Complex here today.
Amar said the assembly will meet for five days, starting with menteri besar Nassuruddin Daud tabling the state budget on the first day tomorrow.
