PETALING JAYA:
Kuala Lumpur police today confirmed that controversial singer Namewee was arrested and charged with drug possession last month.

Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, was nabbed by police on Oct 22 at a hotel in the capital where they discovered nine blue pills, suspected to be ecstasy, in the room, Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said.

Wee later tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine and ketamine and THC.

“He was then remanded for two days before being charged in court on Oct 24,” Fadil said in a statement.

Apart from possession, Wee was also charged with consuming drugs. He claimed trial to both charges.

The court granted Wee bail of RM4,000 on each charge.

It also fixed Dec 18 for re-mention of the case.

The last time Wee ran afoul of the law was in 2021 when he was questioned over his film BABI, which revolved around racial tension and hate speech.
