PETALING JAYA:
Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman says he has secured RM1 million in welfare aid for his constituents after completing the Ironman Malaysia race in Langkawi today in under 13 hours.

In a Facebook post, he said he recorded a new personal best of 12 hours and 22 minutes, after his record of 13 hours and 13 minutes last year.

He swam 3.8km, cycled 180km and ran 42.2km.

“RM1 million in welfare aid was unlocked and the challenge was fulfilled. I cried. But it’s worth it,” he said.

“I felt like retching multiple times, was cramping all over and I went in and out of the washroom to vomit because I could not keep any food in my body,” he said.

The former youth and sports minister also shared a 25-second video in his Facebook post, showing him weeping in happiness after crossing the finish line.

A fashion clothing manufacturer Prima Valet had promised a RM1 million contribution to the people of Muar if Syed Saddiq finished below the 13-hour mark.

“I came here with one goal – to get RM1 million in welfare support for Muar,” the New Straits Times also reported Syed Saddiq as saying.
