Man charged with killing wife’s cousin

PETALING JAYA:
A construction worker was charged in the Tumpat magistrates’ court in Kelantan today in connection with the death of his wife’s cousin last Friday.

Bernama reported that no plea was recorded from Hamizi Hamzah, 45, as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

He was charged with the murder of Shuhairi Hasim, 46, at 11.20pm, at a house in Kampung Kok Bedollah, on Oct 24.

The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code provides for the death penalty or 30 to 40 years’ imprisonment and 12 strokes of the cane, if convicted.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Nazuha Ismail, while Hamizi was unrepresented.

In the same court, he pleaded guilty to self-administration of methamphetamine at the state’s narcotics crime investigation department office on Oct 25.

The charge, under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to two years or both upon conviction.

Magistrate Wan Ashrul Afhan Azmi set Jan 28 next year for mention of both cases and submission of pathology and chemistry reports.
