KUALA LUMPUR:
The East Coast Expressway 3 (LPT3) will proceed under a public-private partnership that will incur no costs to the government, says deputy works minister Ahmad Maslan.

Ahmad told the Dewan Rakyat that the necessary documents have been submitted to the Prime Minister’s Department’s public-private partnership unit while a request for proposal will be issued thereafter.

He added that the government’s focus was on completing the central spine road project and Kota Bharu-Kuala Krai highway, both of which will benefit Malaysians residing in the east coast of the peninsula.

The proposed LPT3 will cost about RM9.8 billion, with the 122km tolled highway running from Kampung Gemuroh in Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, to Kampung Tunjong in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

In February, Ahmad said the project had yet to be finalised as the government first needed to determine if concessionaires were interested.
