Umno Youth secretary Hafiz Ariffin said Shahrul is on garden leave with immediate effect.
“Since this is a personal matter, it is more appropriate and professional for him to settle it as he needs to,” Hafiz told FMT.
“The party takes the matter seriously and hopes that he and his former wife can resolve it.”
Hafiz also stressed that the controversy has nothing to do with party activities.
Social media platforms were recently abuzz with allegations made by Shahrul’s former wife, an entrepreneur known as Datin Amyera, who shared a series of claims on Instagram about their past marriage.
In response, Shahrul issued a statement on his own Instagram account yesterday, saying he did not intend to engage in any public debate or dispute over his personal life.
He confirmed that his marriage had legally ended on July 30, 2024, and expressed regret that a private matter had become a public spectacle.
He said the issue has “tarnished the dignity of many parties, including myself, my family, and my fiancée, who is not involved at all”.
