PETALING JAYA:
A police lance corporal claimed trial in the Shah Alam magistrates’ court today to a charge of molesting a 22-year-old woman at the Subang Jaya police headquarters in April.

Nuri Bahrun, 25, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before magistrate Syafiq Sulaiman, Kosmo reported.

Nuri is accused of using criminal force with intent to outrage the victim’s modesty in the photography room of the Subang Jaya police headquarters at around 3.38pm on April 23.

The charge under Section 354 of the Penal Code is punishable by up to 10 years in prison, a fine, whipping or any two of the punishments if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutor Muaz Khawarizmi Azfar proposed bail at RM6,000 but lawyer Vasu Appu sought a lower amount, saying his client only earns RM2,800 a month as a policeman with the traffic unit and has a family to look after.

Vasu added that the accused is a civil servant and would not flee as he stays in the police barracks.

The court fixed bail at RM3,000 and Nov 28 for case mention.
