PETALING JAYA:
A woman lost RM100,000 after thinking that her husband on a business trip to China was asking her for money.

The kindergarten teacher was deceived by messages on WhatsApp from an individual posing as her husband, Bernama reported.

Johor Bahru Selatan police chief Raub Selamat said the 52-year-old victim was asked to send money to help her “husband”, a general manager of a private company, with a business matter, claiming his bank account was unusable in China.

The woman did not suspect anything and made seven bank transfers totalling RM100,000 into three different accounts last Friday.

After making the payments, she contacted her husband, who was in China on a week-long business trip.

It was only then that she found out that her husband’s WhatsApp account had been hacked.

Raub said the victim realised she had been scammed and filed a police report yesterday.
