
In a quarter-final match at the Glaz Arena in Cesson-Sevigne, world mixed doubles champions Tang Jie-Ee Wei were defeated by Hong Kong’s Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet, ranked World No 8, in straight games.
After losing the first game without a fight, the Malaysians tried to force a rubber game, but their gritty opponents held on to win 21-9, 21-18 in 37 minutes.
It was their first defeat to Chun Man-Ying Suet in their three encounters to date.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei, ranked world No 3, were eliminated in the semi-finals of the Denmark Open last week.
They have made just two final and seven semi-final appearances this year, winning only the World Championships title in August.
In a later match, Soon Huat-Shevon also lost in straight games to world No 2 pair Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping of China.
Yan Zhe-Dong Ping took 42 minutes to beat the husband-and-wife combination, ranked world No 9, 21-18, 21-16.
The defeat meant that Soon Huat-Shevon have lost all three of their encounters against the Chinese pair.
It was also the 11th time that the Malaysians have been knocked out at the quarter-final stage in 18 tournaments so far.
Soon Huat-Shevon, who have yet to enter any final this year, are currently in fifth position in the World Tour Finals standings, where only the top eight pairs will qualify for the season finale.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei are in the sixth position.
The tournament, to be played in Hangzhou, China, in December, will be limited to two pairs per category from each country.
