PETALING JAYA:
The magistrates’ court here has ordered a teenager charged with the murder of his schoolmate at a school in Bandar Utama to undergo psychiatric evaluation.

Lawyer Kitson Foong, who appeared as amicus curiae, said magistrate Amira Sariaty Zainal issued the order under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code to determine whether the accused is fit to stand trial.

“The defence argued that everyone involved in the case, including the accused, is a victim.

“As such, the magistrate granted the application for the accused to undergo an examination.

“So, we will wait for the experts’ assessments and for the full report to be presented to the court during the next hearing,” he told reporters at the Petaling Jaya court complex.

Earlier, the 14-year-old male student was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for the murder of his female schoolmate. However, no plea was recorded as murder cases come under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

According to the charge sheet, the teen was accused of fatally stabbing the 16-year-old in the girls’ toilet at SMK Bandar Utama Damansara (4), here, on Oct 14 between 9.20am and 9.35am.
