Wong Shu Qi (PH-Kluang) said the budget does not contain flashy programmes or one-off handouts designed merely to win public favour.
She said Malaysians have long been accustomed to “sugar-coated” budgets focused mainly on cash handouts.
“Rarely do we ask where the money comes from. Therefore, I can conclude that the 2026 budget is boring, but it is for the greater good,” she said during the debate on the Supply (Budget) Bill 2026 in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Wong welcomed the government’s commitment to sticking to proven economic programmes that aim to “raise the ceiling and lift the floor”.
“This means proven economic programmes will continue, such as the Syarikat Jaminan Pembiayaan Perniagaan Bhd for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), which has been increased from RM40 billion to RM50 billion,” she said.
For the 2026 budget, RM419.2 billion has been allocated to focus on economic revitalisation, social protection, and digital acceleration.
The government targets a fiscal deficit of 3.5% of GDP in 2026 and projects revenue of RM343.1 billion without new taxes, aiming to reduce the deficit below 3% by 2030.
