Senior citizen’s defence called in MBPJ dog round-up obstruction case

Defence says Patrick Khoo and another witness will testify after court rules a prima facie case has been established.

The magistrates’ court here has ordered senior citizen Patrick Khoo to enter his defence to a charge of obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his duties during an operation to catch stray dogs two years ago.

Magistrate Shahril Anuar Ahmad Mustapa held that the prosecution had made a prima facie case against Khoo under Section 186 of the Penal Code.

Khoo is charged with preventing Petaling Jaya city council (MBPJ) enforcement officer Azizul Azzim Norehan from carrying out his duties during an operation on the night of March 22, 2023.

The incident, captured on video, was said to have occurred at Taman Kanagapuram in Section 18 here.

If convicted, he could be jailed for up to two years, or fined up to RM10,000, or both.

Defence lawyer Rajsurian Pillai told the court Khoo and another witness will testify in his client’s defence.

Tay Chee Fu also appeared for Khoo, while deputy public prosecutor Lim Leong Hui appeared for the prosecution.

The court fixed Dec 18 to 19 for hearing.
