Menteri besar Amirudin Shari said other measures include implementing on-site student registration and using a smart notification system linking parents and teachers.
He said the tragedy has deeply traumatised the school community, especially students who witnessed the attack, leading to a noticeable drop in attendance over the past few days.
“To restore parents’, teachers’, and students’ confidence in school safety and help them overcome the trauma, the state government will hold sessions with them to commemorate the victim and discuss safety improvements,” he said in a statement issued after a state executive council meeting today.
He added that the initiative will involve the district education office, the Selangor education department, the education ministry, police, and the school’s parent-teacher association, to ensure schools remain safe environments for children.
Influenza A jabs for students
On a separate matter, Amirudin said the state government had allocated RM1 million to provide free Influenza A vaccinations for 12,500 students in Hulu Langat, Gombak, Klang and Petaling.
“This will begin as early as next week, with the initiative led by Jamaliah Jamaluddin, the state public health and environment committee chairman,” he said.
Amirudin also announced RM64,000 in disaster aid for residents affected by a recent storm in Sijangkang, with 64 household heads to receive RM1,000 each for damages to their homes.
He said the state health department had identified 14 injured residents, including a service centre officer, who are being treated at government hospitals.
In addition, he said RM320,000 from the state disaster fund would be used to repair SRK Kampung Medan so that students can return to school safely.
“This commitment is in addition to early assistance already channelled by state agencies such as Yayasan MBI and the Selangor Islamic religious council, which have provided RM564,000 to six schools, service centres and affected families,” he said.
Ahead of the 47th Asean Summit next weekend, he said state civil servants and GLC staff may work from home with approval from their department heads. The foreign delegations will begin arriving in the country from Oct 17.
He also said the state government is encouraging private employers to offer similar flexibility to employees to ease traffic congestion caused by road closures.
