PETALING JAYA:
Former Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) vice-chancellor Dzulkifli Abdul Razak sustained a head injury after being assaulted by robbers near his home in Taman Pekaka, George Town, at dawn today.

Penang police chief Azizee Ismail confirmed the incident and said a male suspect has been arrested.

He added that the suspect will be brought to court tomorrow for a remand order.

He said the robbery happened at about 6.45am, when the 75-year-old victim suffered an injury to his head.

Earlier today, Universiti Utara Malaysia said on Facebook that the robbery occurred when Dzulkifli was returning home after performing morning prayers.

UUM said Dzulkifli, a former rector of International Islamic University Malaysia, required 15 stitches after being pistol-whipped by the suspect.

A statement from a family member shared by UUM said Dzulkifli was otherwise safe and well after the trauma of the incident.
