KUALA LUMPUR:
Six highways and 25 major roads across the Klang Valley will be closed in conjunction with the 47th Asean Summit 2025, to be held from Oct 26 to Oct 28, here.

Bukit Aman traffic investigation and enforcement director Yusri Hassan Basri said the affected highways are the North-South Expressway Central Link (ELITE), New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), Guthrie Corridor Expressway, North-South Expressway, MEX Highway, and KL-Seremban Expressway.

Other affected routes include the KLIA Expressway, Putrajaya Ring Road and several main roads in the city centre, such as Jalan Istana, Jalan Damansara, Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Parlimen and Jalan Kuching.

“A total of 1,111 traffic officers and personnel will be deployed throughout the summit to ensure smooth movement of delegates and dignitaries.

“The traffic deployment will run from Oct 17 to Oct 29, covering traffic control, VIP escorts, and enforcement of road regulations,” he told a press conference.

He said motorcade escort rehearsals will also be held from tomorrow until Oct 24, along routes connecting the Bunga Raya Complex at KLIA and the RMAF Subang Air Base to hotels in Kuala Lumpur, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) and Seri Negara.

He advised the public to avoid affected roads and use public transport, such as the MRT, LRT, monorail, or buses, during the period.

“For media personnel, healthcare workers, and those on official duty, access through diverted routes will be granted with valid official passes. However, if a VIP convoy is approaching, traffic officers will not allow passage regardless of pass status,” he added.

The 47th Asean Summit marks the culmination of Malaysia’s Asean chairmanship this year, under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability”.

Among the world leaders expected to attend are US president Donald Trump, Chinese premier Li Qiang, Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and South African president Cyril Ramaphosa.
