KUALA LUMPUR:
U Mobile Sdn Bhd has signed its first 5G and 4G wholesale access agreement with Eastel, a new mobile virtual network operator under Anchor Communications Sdn Bhd.

Licensed under the Application Service Provider and Network Service Provider categories by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, Eastel is expected to launch commercially in the first quarter of 2026.

In a joint statement, both parties said the five-year deal marks U Mobile’s first wholesale access partnership covering both 5G and 4G networks.

“It will see U Mobile providing its next-generation 5G infrastructure and 4G network for data, voice and SMS services, as well as support for international direct dial, roaming and mobile number portability,” the statement read.

U Mobile deputy CEO Kenneth Chang said the partnership signals the start of more 5G wholesale agreements, especially as the company’s 5G network expansion is expected to reach 80% coverage of populated areas by the second half of next year.

“With an award-winning 4G and next-generation 5G network, we look forward to enabling more opportunities for telco players to tap into our advanced and future-proofed infrastructure, as well as operational expertise.

“This move also underscores our commitment to support the nation’s digital economy through greater market diversity and competition,” he said.

Eastel executive director Aaron Lee said the company aims to deliver niche and customisable data-intensive applications by tapping into U Mobile’s ultra-fast 5G and 4G networks.

“Together with U Mobile, we look forward to building a stronger, more connected Malaysia,” he said.
