The suspect, in his 60s, was arrested at 10am today after giving his statement at the Penang MACC office.
“A preliminary investigation found that the incident occurred around 2015, when the suspect held a position in the association.
“He is believed to have solicited and received about RM405,000 in bribes from the sale of five apartment units belonging to the association located around Penang.
“He allegedly received the money through transfers made to his personal bank account, with a total of 12 transactions detected,” said a source.
Penang MACC director S Karunanithy confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009 for corruptly soliciting or receiving any gratification.
He said the suspect will be charged at the Butterworth special corruption sessions court on Wednesday.
