Teen detained over rape, explicit video of minor

PETALING JAYA:
A 17-year-old teenager in Sarawak has been detained for allegedly raping a minor and circulating an explicit video of the victim.

Bau police chief Haide A Rahman said the suspect was the victim’s former boyfriend, according to a report filed by the girl’s mother, The Borneo Post reported.

The suspect’s mobile phone was also seized to assist with the probe.

“The complainant said her underage daughter was sexually assaulted by her former boyfriend, who also circulated an explicit video of the victim on social media without consent,” he was quoted as saying.

The case is being investigated for rape and misuse of network facilities under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, respectively.

Section 376(1) of the Penal Code carries a maximum imprisonment of 20 years and whipping, while Section 233 of the CMA provides for a fine of up to RM50,000, imprisonment not exceeding one year, or both, upon conviction.
