PETALING JAYA:
National men’s doubles shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik stormed into the Arctic Open final after sweeping aside Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Kittinupong Kedren at Vantaa, Finland, early this morning.

They joined Pearly Tan-M Thinaah, who qualified for the final of the women’s doubles event at the Energia Areena earlier.

In the final tonight, Aaron-Wooi Yik will play England’s Ben Lane-Sean Vendy, who defeated Malaysians Choong Hon Jian-Hakimi Nazri in the other semi-final match

Aaron-Wooi Yik have already won the Badminton Asian Championships, the Thailand Open, and the Singapore Open this year in one of their best seasons of their career.

The world No 2 pair took just 36 minutes to win 21-15, 21-14 against world No 13 Thai pair. It was their fourth win against the up-and-coming Thais in as many encounters.

Last year, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rusmani won the Arctic Open men’s doubles crown, but they withdrew from the event this year.

Pearly-Thinaah are gunning for their second title in their sixth final appearance this season, after having won the Thailand Open in May.

If both Malaysian pairs win tonight, it will be a historic double for the country in Finland.

The Arctic Open is a World Tour Super 500 event offering total prize money of US$450,000 (RM2 million).

The winners in the doubles categories will take home US$37,525 (RM158,468) and the runners-up US$18,050 (RM76,225). All semi-finalists win US$6,650 (RM28,083).
