PETALING JAYA:
The four Form 5 students currently under remand over the alleged gang rape of a junior in Alor Gajah, Melaka will be allowed to sit for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination from Nov 3.

Education minister Fadhlina Sidek said this was decided after discussions with the police and state education department, to ensure the students are allowed to proceed with their studies, Kosmo reported.

“We will ensure that they aren’t left behind in their education.

“We will leave the legal action to the police. Meanwhile, we will manage matters involving discipline, the school’s ecosystem and emotional support for children in the school,” she was quoted as saying.

According to Fadhlina, the victim in the case is currently receiving treatment and “emotional support” in hospital, while a team of counsellors has been deployed to support other students in the school.

The suspects allegedly committed the offence on the 15-year-old victim at about 2.50pm on Oct 2, while she was headed to her classroom to collect something she had left behind.

Two of the suspects reportedly watched and recorded the incident with their handphones, and the videos they took were later circulated online.

The four boys have been placed under remand until Oct 16.
