KUALA LUMPUR:
A butcher pleaded not guilty in the magistrates’ court in Selayang today to a charge of negligently causing the death of his brother-in-law during a hunting trip in Gombak, Selangor, last month.

Zaid Zakaria, 33, entered the plea after the charge was read to him before magistrate Sabreena Bakar @ Bahari.

His elder sister, the victim’s wife, was present in the public gallery along with his wife and several other family members.

Zaid, who has four children, was accused of negligently causing the death of Nor Azuar Juyob, 43, in a forest at Taman Pinggiran Batu Caves at about 8pm on Sept 28.

He was charged under Section 304A of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum two-year jail term, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The magistrate allowed bail of RM6,000 with one surety and ordered Zaid to report to the police once a month.

The case was fixed for mention on Dec 18.

Lawyer Sukhdev Singh represented Zaid, and deputy public prosecutor Iqbal Azman appeared for the prosecution.
