This comes after the 2025 Auditor-General’s Report released yesterday revealed that the management of government vehicles under concession was unsatisfactory, with an estimated RM54.51 million in uncollected penalties for late delivery.
PAC chairman Mas Ermieyati Samsudin told a press conference at Parliament today the committee would focus on elements of misappropriation, abuse of power, wastage, and leakages, in its review of the issues raised in the report.
She also said the committee would call in representatives from the office of the chief registrar of the Federal Court to provide clarification on the e-Jamin system.
In the Auditor-General’s Report, the department had said data from the concession vehicle management system showed that as of Dec 31, 2024, a total of 6,028 vehicles were delivered between one and 508 days late, exceeding the 60-working-day delivery period from the order date.
However, up to the time of the audit, there were no records indicating that any penalty claims had been made against the concession company involved.
The report found that the federal government had incurred an estimated RM28.79 million in additional costs by continuing to use concession vehicles with expired lease periods instead of replacing them with new vehicles within the stipulated time frame.
It also said that based on response from the finance ministry, a penalty committee and penalty assessment working committee had been formed to review and determine the appropriate claims for submission by the ministries involved.
Separately, Mas Ermieyati said the committee also planned to make a working visit to review progress on the littoral combat ship project.
“God-willing, we will have a working visit to see the development of the LCS vessels during this meeting, and we will announce the date later,” she said.
In July, defence minister Khaled Nordin said the LCS project was behind schedule at 72.9% completion, short of its 76.1% target by end June.
Khaled had said the first LCS began its testing phase in May and would undergo sea trials in December.
The second would be delivered by April 2027 and the remaining three were on schedule for delivery every eight months until 2029.
