The finance ministry said the expansion would benefit more than 17,900 fishermen registered with the fisheries development authority, 4,300 private boat owners under the Sabah ports and harbours department, and 9,700 new drivers.
These individuals will now enjoy RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre, compared with the unsubsidised price of RM2.60, joining over 16 million Malaysians currently benefiting from the BUDI95 scheme.
The finance ministry also said it was finalising additional data on boat users without driving licences nationwide, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak.
Separately, it said the Land Public Transport Agency and e-hailing operators were in the midst of discussions on implementing an allocation of more than 300 litres of RON95 for them.
