PETALING JAYA:
Federal police have arrested seven Malaysians for allegedly posting social media posts that are seditious, insulting or threatening, with most of these cases involving national leaders.

Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director M Kumar said the seven men have been remanded for one to three days to assist in the investigations.

The postings were made between Sept 17 and Oct 5.

“Checks found that one of the suspects, in his 40s, has a record for 19 narcotic offences, while another, in his 60s, had been investigated under the Peaceful Assembly Act in the past,” he said in a statement.

Six of the cases involved social media postings or comments on TikTok aimed at the government and national leaders, with one case related to the petrol subsidy issue.

The last case involved a Facebook post said to have been defamatory of “certain parties”.

Kumar warned against misusing social media platforms to incite sedition, make threats or insults, or cause public alarm, saying strict action will be taken.
