
Deputy president Oh Tong Keong told a press conference the party’s election team has identified potential candidates and will submit their names to the leadership for deliberation soon.
He also said Gerakan could not afford to sit out the Sabah polls, adding that “it is pointless to practise if you don’t contest in any matches”.
Api-Api, currently held by PKR’s Christina Liew for a fourth term, has 43.5% Chinese voters and 40.1% Sabah Bumiputeras.
It is speculated that the Sabah assembly will be dissolved this month to make way for an election, following the departure of Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) and Sabah Progressive Party from the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah coalition over disagreements on joining forces with Pakatan Harapan.
